The NBS had an (as I recall it) 8 paragraph Charter that was summed up as: To promulgate, distribute, promote, and enforce Standards for Trade and Industry. It too costs about $100.īazzer - You may not be aware of this, but the United States government abandoned the enforcement of standards in 1986 (when we did away with the National Bureau of Standards and created the National Institute of Standards Technology).

Is was used, along with a copy of ASME Y14.5M, in the drafting program of the technical college I went to. There is also a book called the Drawing Requirements Manual. ASME Y14.5- Dimensioning and Tolerancing.ASME Y14.3- Multi-view and sectional view drawings.ASME Y14.2- Line conventions and lettering.ASME Y14.100- Engineering drawing and practices.

What's your budget? Can you afford the $100 or so for a copy of Y14.100 or the standards that it references? If you are near a Technical College check out their curriculum to see if there are any night classes for drafting you could take. You might do an internet search to see if there are any engineering drawing books that you could purchase.
